How Can I Use CBD Oil?
Continuing with our series of answers to our most Frequently Asked Questions, we’re going to tackle the matter of CBD oils. What are CBD oils? How do they work? How can they be used? How do I choose between one option or another when I’m buying CBD tinctures online?
CBD oils are one of the most (if not the most) commonly sold hemp derived products on the alternative health scene and are especially popular amongst first-time users and those who rely on larger, more frequent doses. So let’s dig into this subject and help find the right choice for YOU!
What Are CBD Oils?
The term CBD oil generally refers to CBD tinctures; and though the term is occasionally used to describe CBD distillates and other raw extracts, we’ll be covering tincture use in this article. CBD tinctures contain a base oil (such as coconut derived MCT oil, as featured in all Silver Owl Tinctures) used as a carrier agent infused with a hemp derived CBD extract, like CBD Isolate or Broad Spectrum Extract. These often have flavorings added with the use of additional terpenes, essential oils and other flavorful ingredients.
It’s important to note that there’s a major difference between CBD oils and other hemp derived oils, such as hemp oil and hempseed oil. While the term CBD oil most commonly describes tinctures and CBD-heavy extracts, hempseed oil is a type of cooking oil containing trace amounts of the desired cannabinoids, if any; and the term hemp oil can be deceptively used to refer to hempseed oil or any other extract, making it a term that merits further investigation any time it’s seen on a website or in a store.
How Do They Work?
CBD-heavy oils and tinctures containing other cannabinoids, like CBG or Delta 8, all rely on the same methods of delivery- but due to the body-wide reach of our endocannabinoids and these compounds’ versatility, these methods can vary quite broadly. When infused in a carrier oil, CBD can be introduced to the body directly through the mucus membranes (under the tongue and in the lungs, for instance) or through the digestive tract for a slower onset that provides longer-lasting effects.
CBD oils can also be absorbed through the skin, providing a more localized set of effects. The topical use of CBD tinctures is increasing in popularity these days; if you have a bottle laying around, try some on the skin sometime and see what you think!
How Can They Be Used?
CBD oils provide a natural, versatile option for end users looking to get the most of their purchases when they buy CBD products online. They can be added to food or drinks, administered directly under the tongue or applied to troublesome spots across the body as a topical solution.
Many folks give their pets CBD oils too. While some natural CBD products intended for human use can be safe for dogs, cats and other animals, we must discourage folks from giving their personal CBD tinctures to their pets. Many of these products contain flavoring agents that are dangerous or even lethal in small amounts to anything other than a human. Even if these flavors aren’t produced by artificial ingredients, natural additives such as Lemon, Peppermint or Spearmint Essential Oils (as seen in Silver Owl Tinctures) are extremely toxic to our furry, feathered and scaly friends.
To be completely safe and sure, it’s best just to get your pets a CBD oil that’s been specially formulated just for them. You and your families are always better off safe than sorry- and in many cases, you can even use their products too. Just be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when sharing with your family!
