Is CBD Psychoactive?
One of the most common questions we field about our products is, “Will this get me high?” It’s a question asked by as many folks looking for a buzz as by those who are looking to avoid getting high.
Understanding Psychoactivity
The Mirriam Webster Dictionary defines psychoactive products as those “affecting the mind or behavior”. While cannabis is a known psychoactive substance due to its various THC compounds, hemp generally doesn’t contain enough of these to get you high- however, in high enough doses, some hemp derived cannabinoids can still be psychoactive.
Let’s take a look at our products and see which ones are psychoactive:
CBD
Hemp derived Cannabidiol (CBD) itself is not psychoactive. Of the three types of CBD extract (Isolate, Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum), only Full Spectrum CBD products contain THC- and with strict state and federal regulations in place, you can be sure that the trace amounts of THC in such products (0.3% or less) won’t be enough to cause psychoactive effects.
This means that whether you’re buying a Peppermint CBD Tincture or Broad Spectrum Gummies online, you won’t have to worry about them being psychoactive. That said, if you’re looking for psychoactivity, keep reading!
CBG
Like CBD, hemp derived Cannabigerol (CBG) is not psychoactive on its own either. While this cannabinoid directly binds to CB1 and CB2 receptors in our endocannabinoid system, often providing what many users perceive to be a stronger effect, it does not do so in a way that causes the chemical responses that directly incite a mental or behavioral change. In other words, our CBG products won’t get you high either.
Delta 8
Unlike the other two, hemp derived Delta 8 THC (Delta 8) is measurably psychoactive, producing effects very similar to those of the other THC compounds. Delta 8 is an analogue of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that’s slightly less psychoactive than its internationally known Delta 9 counterpart and differs from it by a matter of a small number of atomic bonds.
Due to its psychoactivity and its association with Delta 9 THC, this cannabinoid is subject to regulations that vary more by state than what we’ve seen imposed upon CBD and CBG. As such, when our upcoming line of Silver Owl Delta 8 products is released, we may not be able to ship to your state. Check the list in the disclaimers below for more info.
